The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the individual who died following a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday night on U.S. 176 near Coach Road.
Coroner Sean Fogle identified the deceased as 25-year-old Shyreik Davis.
According to preliminary findings from investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. when a Honda Accord traveling eastbound reportedly left the roadway while the driver attempted to avoid a deer. Authorities stated the vehicle subsequently overturned before striking a tree.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and rendered aid to the occupants of the vehicle. Davis sustained critical injuries and was transported to a medical facility in Charleston, where he later succumbed to those injuries despite life-saving efforts.
A passenger who was also inside the vehicle was transported to the hospital for treatment. Officials have not released further information regarding the extent or severity of the passenger’s injuries at this time.
The incident has resulted in significant grief within the Orangeburg County community as family members, friends, and residents mourn the loss of a young life. What began as a routine nighttime drive ended in a fatal collision that has left a lasting impact on those who knew and loved Davis.
