BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Monday afternoon on Grant Street, while investigators continue to examine a possible connection to a separate triple homicide investigation in neighboring Cheektowaga.
According to the Buffalo Police Department, officers assigned to the D District responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Grant Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency responders immediately began providing medical assistance at the scene. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Detectives from the Buffalo Police Homicide Unit quickly launched an investigation, conducting witness interviews, collecting evidence, and reviewing information gathered at the scene. Through those efforts, investigators identified a suspect and moved swiftly to make an arrest.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Saleh Mohamed of Cheektowaga. Mohamed has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I felony under New York State law.
The case has drawn additional public attention because investigators are also exploring a potential connection between the Buffalo homicide and a separate triple homicide investigation currently underway in Cheektowaga.
Officials confirmed that a man identified as Saleh Mohamed is listed as the registered owner of the residence where Cheektowaga Police are investigating the deaths of three individuals discovered Monday. While detectives from both departments have been in communication regarding the ongoing investigations, authorities have not publicly confirmed whether the incidents are directly related.
The identity of the victim killed on Grant Street has not yet been released as investigators continue their work and next-of-kin notifications are completed.
Both investigations remain active and ongoing. Detectives continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and work to establish a complete timeline of events surrounding the incidents.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that may assist investigators to contact the Buffalo Police Department or the Cheektowaga Police Department. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigations progress.
Police remind the public that criminal charges are allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
