BIRDTALL SIOUX DAKOTA NATION, MB — With profound sorrow and broken hearts, the Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation community is mourning the tragic loss of Jodi Tianna Bunn, whose life was taken far too soon in a devastating hit-and-run incident on May 29, 2026. She was only 22 years old.

Jodi’s passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of her family, friends, and community members who loved her deeply. More than a victim of a tragic event, Jodi was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and light to those around her.

According to authorities, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to reports of reckless driving within Birdtail Sioux First Nation before receiving an urgent call regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Jodi suffering from severe injuries. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by first responders and paramedics, she was tragically pronounced deceased.

An arrest has since been made in connection with the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek answers and accountability.

While the legal process moves forward, loved ones are choosing to remember the remarkable young woman Jodi was during her 22 years of life.
