WORCESTER, Mass. — A 25-year-old Worcester woman has been identified as the fifth Massachusetts resident killed in a devastating multi-vehicle crash involving a charter bus on Interstate 95 in Virginia.
According to family members, friends, and information shared through a GoFundMe campaign, Priscilla Ramos Mafalda of Worcester was among the five victims who lost their lives in the early morning collision that has shocked communities across Massachusetts.
Mafalda’s husband was also involved in the crash and suffered serious injuries. He remains under medical care as loved ones continue to pray for his recovery while mourning the loss of his wife.
The deadly crash occurred during the early morning hours on Interstate 95 southbound in Virginia when a motorcoach reportedly failed to slow for stopped traffic ahead of a work zone. Federal transportation officials confirmed that five people were killed, including a 13-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced that investigators from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are actively examining the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs and federal investigators have been working at the crash site as authorities continue gathering evidence and reviewing driver qualifications, company records, and vehicle operations.
Officials confirmed that the driver of the charter bus has been identified as 48-year-old Jing S. Dong of New York City. According to authorities, Dong obtained his commercial driver’s license through New York State in 2024.
Transportation officials also stated that investigators are reviewing licensing records, training documentation, and the driver’s history. Secretary Duffy noted that any company, trainer, or driving school that may have contributed to placing an unqualified driver behind the wheel would face significant scrutiny.
Virginia authorities have charged Dong with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, with additional charges expected as the investigation progresses.
On Saturday, authorities identified four members of the Doncev family of Greenfield, Massachusetts, as the other victims killed in the crash. Those victims included Dmitri Doncev, 45, his wife Ecaterina Doncev, 44, and their children Emily Doncev, 14, and Mark Doncev, 7.
The loss of Priscilla Ramos Mafalda has left family members, friends, and the Worcester community grieving a young life taken far too soon. Tributes continue to pour in from loved ones who remember her for her kindness, warmth, and the positive impact she had on those around her.
As the investigation continues, communities across Massachusetts remain united in mourning the five lives lost while offering support and prayers to the surviving victims and their families.
Authorities say additional information regarding the crash and pending charges may be released as the investigation develops.
