For 14 years, Khalid served as a Markham councillor, playing a key role in shaping the growth and development of one of Canada’s fastest-growing municipalities. Throughout his career, he volunteered and held leadership positions in numerous organizations, including the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, Frank Scarpitti Charitable Foundation, Markham District Energy, York Region Community Foundation, Markham Board of Trade, and Unionville Home Society Foundation.

He was widely recognized for promoting interfaith dialogue, intercultural understanding, and inclusion, and he was a passionate advocate for both the Pakistani and Muslim communities. His efforts strengthened relationships across diverse cultural and religious groups, leaving a lasting mark on the social fabric of York Region.

Khalid’s humanitarian work extended internationally, supporting healthcare, education, and disaster relief programs in Canada and Pakistan. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Abida Usman, daughters Hina, Rabiah, and Maria, grandchildren, extended family, and a wide network of friends and colleagues.
